Preliminary Task

Initial ideas:
For our initial idea we first thought of doing something to do with the genre crime. We had some ideas but were not great. Eventually we came up with the idea to do a Rom-Com (romance and comedy). We thought that this would be a good idea because it would give us the chance to try different things. We started coming up with a lot of ideas about what to do, but then we thought of an idea that the whole group was happy with. This idea was to have two men who were flattered by the appearance of a women. By doing this we thought it would give us the perfect opportunity to involve the comedy side of things. So after that we started with our story boards to get an idea of what sort of shots we would use and how we would use them. After doing that we were happy with what we had came up with and just left us with finding the correct characters to play the part.

Story Boards:

1. Two actors walk down the corridor. one behind the other. (Long shot)

2. The two actors gazing at the actress through the glass. (Medium shot)

3. Camera glazes through the window at the actress holding the clip as she teases the actors. (Zoom in)

4. One of the actors pushes the other actor to the floor to get the the actress first to declare his love to her. (Medium shot)

5. This shot here shows the action match shot as the actor approaches the door. (Close up)

6. This is were the actor now pushes the door open. (Action match)

7. This is the actor coming through the door. (Action match)

8. The actor now approaches the table were the actress is sitting and waiting. (Panning)

9. This shot here is were they express there names to each other. (Two shot)

10. This is were the actress reaches out for the actor. (Shot reverse shot/ over the shoulder)

11. This here now shows the actor reach for the actress. keeping the 180 degree rule. (Shot reverse shot / over the shoulder)

12. This shot is now showing them confessing their love to each other. (Two shot)

13. This shot here keeping the 180 degree rule shows the actress hitting the actor round the head with a tray after getting annoyed with him. (Two shot)

14. This shows the male dropping his head to the table after violently being hit in the head by the actress. (Two shot)

15. Now showing the actress getting up to leave the actor by himself. (Two shot)

16. This shows the actress approaching the door to leave. (Panning)

17. This is now showing the actress pushing the door to leave the room. (Action match)

18. Carrying on the action match this is showing the actress coming out of the door. (Action match)

19. This is now showing the actress walking away from the building. (Panning)

20. The final shot of the scene shows the actor who was hit left by himself. (Medium shot)

Preliminary video:

For our preliminary task we thought that this went quite well as we had achieved what it was that we wanted to do. We wanted to show different aspects of angles and camera shots, including things such as close ups, panning, jump cuts and action matches. We used a variety of effects in order to create the finished effect that we wanted to achieve. We used an increased contrast on the scene where Louise was licking her lips towards Matt to make it seem as though she was glowing in an angelic manner to make it seem as though she was the girl of his dreams. We also used a glow effect in order to enhance this effect. As a group we felt as though our video achieved the basic Rom-Com expectations as Rom-Coms are usually really cheesy and funny.

When it came to filming the preliminary task, we felt as though we could have used a better actor and a better setting; Matt would not do the things which we asked him to do and with the setting, it looked to basic, it could have looked better if we went out of school and used a proper cafe with people in the scene in order to make it look more realistic.
